Combined Frozen Section and Imprint Smear Assessment of Sentinel Node Improves Accuracy and Reduces False Negative Rates in Breast Cancer: A Prospective Study

چکیده

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is standard of care for clinically negative operable breast cancer. However, the best technique intra-operative assessment SLN still remains a matter research. Accuracy frozen section (FS), which widely used detecting metastasis in varies from 79 to 89% with false rate being 5.5 43%. This study was hence done evaluate if combined intraoperative FS and imprint cytology (IC) evaluation improves accuracy reduces In this prospective cohort study, patients cancer axillary status (N0) were included. SLNB using combination radionuclide tracer blue dye. Smears prepared SLNs excised then sent section. Diagnostic indices section, cytology, assessed terms sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, likelihood ratios, rate, overall 95% confidence intervals taking final histopathology as “gold standard.” Eighty-one cases both IC reports available included analysis. Sensitivity (93.8%; CI 69.8–99.8%), specificity (100%; 89.3–100%), value 66.3–100%), (98.4%; 91.6–100%), (6.25%), diagnostic (98.7%) superior compared either techniques. Combination has better reduced them alone.

Imprint cytology versus frozen section analysis for intraoperative assessment of sentinel lymph node in breast cancer

INTRODUCTION Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is the gold standard for surgical staging of the axilla in breast cancer (BC). Frozen section (FS) remains the most popular means of intraoperative SLN diagnosis. Imprint cytology (IC) has also been suggested as a less expensive and equally accurate alternative to FS. The aim of our study was to perform a direct comparison between IC and FS on the s...

ACCURACY OF INTRAOPERATIVE FROZEN SECTION DIAGNOSIS AND TOUCH IMPRINT CYTOLOGY: STUDY ON 1000 CONSECUTIVE CASES

Frozen section and touch imprint cytology are important diagnostic procedures for surgeons during operation and must be accurate if the patient is to receive maximum benefit. To assess the accuracy of intraoperative pathologic consultation including frozen section and touch imprint cytology during a five year period (1995- 2000), a retrospective survey of 1000 consecutive cases of frozen s...

Meta-analysis of sentinel node imprint cytology in breast cancer.

BACKGROUND Intraoperative diagnosis of breast cancer metastases in axillary sentinel nodes is desirable to avoid a second operation for lymphadenectomy. Imprint or touch-preparation cytology is a popular technique that has high specificity and a wide range of sensitivity. METHODS A systematic search of electronic databases was performed. Included articles were assessed for methodological and ...
